BuildOUT California applauds PG&E for being the first California-based utility to support the 1.5% Utilization Goal for LGBT owned/certified businesses.
In September 2014, then-Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1678, sponsored by then-Assemblymember
Richard Gordon. This landmark legislation amended the Public Utilities Code to mandate that LGBT-owned business enterprises be included in the Supplier Diversity Program under General Order 156.
Fast forward seven years and BuildOUT California is profoundly proud to announce that Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) has become the very first utility in California to support the 1.5% utilization goal for LGBT Business Enterprises (LGBTBEs) in its procurement processes. PG&E’s filing dated March 1, 2022, at 10:28am (PDT) expressed:
“PG&E supports the PD’s (CPUC’s Proposed Decision – sic) adoption of voluntary procurement goals of 0.5% in 2022, 1.0% in 2023, and 1.5% in 2024 for LGBTBEs as a reasonable compromise between the Joint Utilities’ and other parties’ stated positions.”
BuildOUT California looks forward to working, in earnest, with PG&E and the LGBT business community to identify and promote extremely qualified/experienced/cost-effective firms who can compete in the marketplace for procurement opportunities with the largest investor owned utilities in the United States.
